A few days later, Olive and Ethan are packing to return to Minnesota. Olive’s choice of souvenir for Dane leads to an argument, as Ethan still refuses to believe his brother was unfaithful and hesitates to be with someone who dislikes him. Olive decides to let the subject drop, and Ethan ends the argument with a kiss. They have sex one last time, the closeness between them reminding Olive how much time she wasted judging Ethan so harshly.
On the flight home, Ethan falls asleep next to Olive, and she thinks about how attached she is beginning to feel. She decides not to let her reservations about Dane come between them, since she may be wrong about his infidelity and has no right to demand to know whether he and Ami were always monogamous. She decides not to jump to conclusions as she once did about Ethan and wakes him up to tell him.
As they make their way companionably to the airport, they bicker over whose apartment they should spend time in. As Ethan kisses her, Olive realizes Ami has just seen them. Dane and Ami seem equally shocked, though Olive wonders if Dane’s reaction is partly hope that she doesn’t know about his previous partners.
