DD is Maali’s boyfriend, the son of a powerful government minister. Despite being raised in a privileged and Westernized environment, DD is passionate about advocating for change in Sri Lanka. He struggles with his love for Maali and the challenges of their relationship.

Sena is a former JVP insurgent and a vengeful ghost in the afterlife. He aims to recruit other souls for demonic forces and holds onto grievances from his past life, ultimately becoming an antagonist shaped by societal oppression.

Stanley is a powerful government figure and father of DD. He presents a benign exterior but harbors bigoted and violent tendencies. Stanley's actions serve as significant threats to Maali and those around him.

These three characters are different expressions of the same archetype of government officials abusing their power. They are involved in torture and murder during the Civil War and represent the pure evil that drives much of the conflict in the novel.

Elsa is a Canadian Sri Lankan who leads an organization ostensibly helping Civil War victims. However, her character symbolizes the problematic aspects of international aid, as her organization has secretive, suspicious motives.
