Activity

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Memorabilia”

In this activity, students will create a collection of memorabilia for Edward based on novel details.

Edward is collected by individuals on his journey as a companion and as an object. Consider the items Edward might need to remember the characters and places he experienced in the novel. Create a collection of items that symbolize the relationship Edward has with each of his owners. Explain how the items help Edward to remember his journey and the lessons he has learned.

  • Consider items, both symbolic and physical, that Edward might collect from each of his owners.
  • Create a written description of each of the items and explain how they each relate to an important lesson Edward learned.
  • Explain how each of the items you collected relates to an experience Edward has in the book.

Present the items you have collected to peers, describing how each represents Edward’s journey.

Teaching Suggestion: Consider allowing students to create drawings or printouts of items Edward collects on his journey for those who may not have access to items to use from home.
