The Hurricane Wars

Talasyn, or Alunsina Ivralis, is the protagonist of The Hurricane Wars. She is described as short with a slight build, chestnut hair, and freckles across her tanned skin. She is a Ligthweaver, capable of accessing the Lightweave aethermancy magic, though at the start of the narrative she lacks any real formal training. The Sunstead Lightweavers were slaughtered by the Night Empire during the events of the Cataclysm when Talasyn was just a year old. She was born as the heir to the throne of Nenavar, but she was sent away as an infant during the Nenavarene Civil War. She then grew up—first in an orphanage and then on the streets—in the chaotic city of Hornbill’s Head, before Darius rescued her and brought her to the Sardovian resistance.

Talasyn’s orphan status and lack of familial connections contribute to her feelings of loneliness, which Talasyn refers to as “a yearning for somewhere she could belong, and for someone she could belong to” (10). Talasyn knows in the back of her mind that she belongs in Nenavar, though she doesn’t know why.
