Not finding Iris at the hotel, Declan goes to Rowan and Zahra’s house, hoping they know where Iris is. Finding only Zahra, Declan tries to leave, but she keeps him there until Rowan comes back from his run. Rowan reminds Declan that love is unconditional and that he still cares about Declan even though Declan said hurtful things. This admission makes Declan realize he has been angry with Rowan for pursuing his own happiness and feels betrayed. Like his father did to all of them, Declan took his anger out on Rowan because of his own hurt feelings. He apologizes sincerely, and Rowan drives him to the airport to follow Iris home.
After getting back, Declan finds that Iris isn’t in their home and goes to find her at Cal’s apartment. Cal, however, refuses to let him in. He points out how badly Declan messed up and says that Declan spent years protecting them from Seth only to become just like him. As Declan retreats for the night, although he is hurt, he sees the truth of these words, recognizing that if he doesn’t change now, he could permanently become like his father.
