Lauren Oya Olamina

The protagonist who narrates large parts of the story through her journals, Lauren is a young Black woman who founds the community of Acorn and spreads the teachings of Earthseed. Her traits include intelligence, charisma, and the ability to remain calm during crises, and she experiences hyperempathy syndrome, which influences her decisions and relationships.

A secondary protagonist and narrator, Larkin learns about her mother through reading her writings and harbors feelings of abandonment towards her. She is intelligent and creative, becoming a scholar and writer who explores themes important to her mother and Earthseed.
