Nimona

Nimona hopes to cheer up Blackheart after his fight with Goldenloin and suggests they visit a science fair. They go in disguise, with Nimona in the form of a young boy named Gregor. When she eventually grows bored, Blackheart agrees to let her sleep on his shoulder as a kitten. He then meets Dr. Meredith Blitzmeyer, a lady with white hair and goggles, who shows him her Anomalous Energy Enhancer. She enthusiastically tells him about her device, which contains an infinite source of green-glowing energy that she has yet to find a use for: “This humble device, good sir, is the first step to reconciling science and magic” (108). Dr. Blitzmeyer gives him her business card. Blackheart is equally enthused, but their conversation is cut short when the device malfunctions. He runs away with Nimona still in cat form and finds out that she is stuck, unable to shift back into her true shape. They flee the science fair, causing chaos as Nimona panics and runs amok, accidentally setting tents ablaze in the process before she is knocked unconscious.

As guards approach to confront Blackheart, who has now lost his disguise, he grabs Nimona and runs to safety.
