Adam gives Hanna a rock case he made for her collection and tells her stories about their mom. Whenever Adam tells her such stories, Hanna holds a photo of their mom while listening. He tells her about the time they made a house and garden in a jar together.
The next day, Adam’s dad drives him and Hanna to school for Hanna’s field trip. Adam is glad to see Zayneb there. She references her mom during their conversation and then pauses. Adam realizes that her aunt told her about his mom and assures her that it’s okay to talk about her.
Adam and Zayneb end up on different buses to the museum for the field trip. They’re in different tour groups, too. On the way home, they text about their favorite parts of the trip and their favorite animals. Adam then invites Zayneb to come to “a rescue shelter for salukis” with him and Hanna the next day (79).
That night, Adam, his dad, and Hanna say their prayers together. Afterward, Adam thinks about his mom and his diagnosis. He has MS, too, and still doesn’t know if he should tell his dad and Hanna.
