Looking out the attic window, the posse watches as Dr. Egan gets in his car with the jewelry box and drives toward town. Griffin, over the computer, tells everyone to follow. As he considers what the team must do, Griffin begins to believe they need him to make sure everything goes smoothly. Since his father will see him if he rides his bike, Griffin gets his in-line skates and begins to skate toward the only jewelry store in Cedarville. He arrives, nearly crashing into Savannah on her bike as the other members of the team run up. They all take positions outside the jewelry store. Looking through the window, they see Dr. Egan open the jewelry box. They rush inside, with Griffin raising a camera to take a picture of what turns out to be an antique gold brooch.
Detective Vizzini fixes an electric monitoring anklet on Griffin’s leg. The officer explains that police will be signaled and Griffin will be arrested if he goes more than 200 feet from the monitor, disturbs the monitor, or turns it off. Though he denies he is guilty, his parents point out that his attempts to prove his innocence have just made matters worse.
