Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, was a federal law signed by President Barack Obama in 2010 that expanded Medicaid eligibility, banned insurers from denying coverage based on preexisting conditions, installed other consumer protections, and reduced barriers to care. The Act was a significant overhaul of the United States’ healthcare system, resulting in 20 to 24 million more Americans receiving health insurance. The bill was controversial and faced multiple legal challenges. However, the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the Act as constitutional.

Austerity

Austerity is an economic approach to reducing government budget deficits, generally by raising taxes and cutting spending. It is usually implemented during crises, such as wartime or economic crises. However, in the United States, conservative parties like the Tea Party have sometimes implemented austerity policies to reduce government intervention and provide tax cuts to the wealthy.

Castle Doctrine

A “castle doctrine” is a legal framework that establishes an individual’s right to protect their place of residence. It might even be permissible to use deadly force against an intruder. The castle doctrine is often used to defend loosening gun restrictions, with advocates claiming that the right to defend one’s home must be preserved.
