The guests arrive at a warehouse and are unimpressed until the back gates open, revealing they will take ferries to the wedding banquet location. Rachel, Nick, and Oliver get on a ferry together. Astrid makes sure to get on a ferry with international guests so that people she knows won’t be constantly asking her about Michael’s absence. On that ferry, she runs into Charlie Wu, the man she was once set to marry. They talk about their lives, and she apologizes for how they ended, admitting that she broke up with him because of family pressure. The ferries approach the fancy island resort owned by Annabel Lee which looks like a crystal palace glowing in the middle of a forest. Oliver finds Kitty and plants the seed that Alistair’s parents are stingy and that Alistair will inherit nothing, with their family’s fortune going to Eddie instead.

The banquet takes place on Palau Samsara, which Daisy Foo asserts is an island haunted by the ghosts of Chinese men killed by Japanese soldiers. The guests eat a molecular fusion cuisine, which most of the distinguished guests find strange.

Eleanor notices that Rachel is wearing one of Su Yi’s necklaces and is furious.
