Activities

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Make a Clean Getaway”

In this activity, students plan their own road trip with stops that have personal and historical significance, then compare their choices to the stops made by Scoob and G’ma.

Think about the arc of Scoob and G’ma’s road trip and the different stops that they make along the way, many of which had significance both in American history and for G’ma personally. Now, think about your own history and stories you’ve learned with which you feel a personal connection. Design your own road trip, choosing 3 to 5 historical stops at monuments, museums, and other sites of significance (both personal and historical).

On a map of the United States, mark your stops with a small icon, just like Scoob did when he drew a church near the 16th Street Baptist Church. On the back of the page, write down the sites and why you would stop at each one. They should appear in the order in which you would visit them.

Share with the class where the stops on your road trip and why you chose these sites.
