When she gets home, Lila tells Amir, Adeena, her godmothers, her grandmother, and her aunt what happened at the hospital with Janet. Lola Flor notes that the security footage at the hospital will prove Lila’s innocence, and Amir says that Detective Park is more interested in drug crimes than in solving Derek’s homicide. Detective Park arrives and accuses Lila of assaulting Janet. He continues, explaining that Derek was a drug dealer-turned-informant, and Janet helped him get the prescriptions for the drugs.
Then, the detective mentions that Lila has a criminal record. Lila’s family is upset, but she explains how Sam used her to illegally obtain supplies for a restaurant. Detective Park accuses Lila of killing Derek because he had become an informant and assaulting Janet because she wouldn’t help Lila get the drugs without Derek. Ninang June laughs and says Lila and Janet were arguing about a boy, not drugs. Lila confirms this, explaining how Janet thought Lila was trying to steal Terrence, her fiancé.
When Detective Park leaves, Tita Rosie tells him she hopes she doesn’t see him until the real killer is caught.
