AI-powered content pledge

Our pledge

At SuperSummary, we’re dedicated to developing content that is based on authoritative and accurate literary knowledge.

Every SuperSummary Study Guide and Teaching Guide is written, edited, and proofread by literature and subject-matter experts. In fact, our writing and editing teams are instructed not to use AI in the development of these products to help ensure the high level of accuracy and quality that SuperSummary readers expect.

We use generative AI to introduce new tools, features, and content types outside of our expert-written Study Guides and Teaching Guides. Our intent is to elevate and personalize our readers’ experiences while deepening their understanding of the texts they read.

While the possibilities of generative AI are endless and exciting, we also recognize the limitations of this technology and aim to use it responsibly. Our use of AI is guided by these principles:

  • Transparency: We clearly label AI-powered content and tools so that readers are aware when content was created with AI assistance.
  • Expert oversight: We use AI to supplement—not replace—our content, product, data, and design expertise. We strive to minimize the pitfalls of AI, such as generating false or biased information, by intentionally and constantly adapting our tools, testing and analyzing generated outputs, and refining our approaches before publishing AI-assisted content.

How we use AI

SuperSummary uses AI to personalize and expand our literature learning resources in a few ways:

  • To offer our expert-written content in new formats: For example, we use AI text-to-speech tools to narrate the audio versions of our Study Guides.
  • To create a tailored experience: We use AI to develop innovative tools, such as our Discussion Questions tool and Recipe Generator, that supplement Study Guide content and provide readers with customizable features tailored to their specific needs.
  • To expand library content with new context: AI tools help us supplement our expert-written content with additional context, such as Before You Read information.

What you can do

As our tools and teams continue to learn, our AI-assisted tools may not operate with complete accuracy or may recreate implicit and explicit biases. We encourage you to approach these tools as starting points in a conversation, to verify tools’ assumptions using our expert Study Guides, and to let us know if you see content that may be harmful, misleading, or biased.

Subscribers like you are our most valuable resource in refining and validating our tools and content. We encourage you to share your feedback about our AI-powered tools and their generated responses by contacting our award-winning Customer Support Team here.
